Service of the Word and Holy Communion

This page is devoted to resources concerning the Roman Catholic liturgy at which the day's Mass readings are read and Holy Communion is distributed in the absence of a priest. Although commonly referred to as 'Eucharistic Services', the official preference of church authorities is to call these 'Services of the Word and Holy Communion'. The preference of the Church is now to reserve the term 'Eucharist' for the celebration of Mass, and only to speak of 'Holy Communion' apart from Mass, following the clarification (para. 156) that lay ministers who distribute Holy Communion should not be styled 'ministers of the Eucharist'.
